Beautifully illustrated with eighty full color photographs, and enhanced with a number of maps, diagrams and charts, this compendium of expert commentary on Buddhism's essential features is an ideal introduction and is highly recommended for personal, academic, and community library Buddhist Studies reference collections and supplemental reading lists.”

“In An Illustrated Outline of Buddhism: The Essentials of Buddhist Spirituality, scholar William Stoddart provides a comprehensive and succinct summary of the diverse expressions of Buddhist teachings and culture across history. In just 160 pages, his concise account covers tremendous breadth and is brought to life with eighty full-color illustrations of Buddhist art and architecture, along with many maps and charts.… This overview will be helpful to the novice, explaining many terms essential to Buddhist thought.… The book is well produced, and the many color illustrations are attractive and engaging.”
ForeWord Reviews, from a review by Kristen Rabe

“Over the last half century the burgeoning popularity of Buddhism in the West has engendered all manner of misconceptions. William Stoddart’s concise, lucid, and penetrating book banishes many misunderstandings and expounds Buddhism as both Doctrine and Way. It also explains the diverse Buddhist schools and branches, and through its abundant illustrations displays that sacred art which is both ‘witness and proof’ of any living tradition. Highly recommended!”
