Biography of David Dakake

David Dakake is an American Muslim specializing in comparative religion and Islamic philosophy. He has an M.A. in Religious Studies from Temple University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in their Department of Religion. He has also studied extensively in Egypt and Iran. His dissertation is entitled, Defining Ambiguity: Early and Classical Tafsîr on the Mutashâbih Verses of the Qur´ân. He has published articles on Islamic history and philosophy, taught courses at the university level on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and Islamic mysticism, and delivered academic papers in the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Formerly a consultant for the Islamic Research Institute in Washington D.C., he is currently employed as a researcher in Islamic Studies at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

David Dakake’s very informative essay “The Myth of a Militant Islam” is included in the anthology Islam, Fundamentalism, and the Betrayal of Tradition .
